Richard C. Stevens’ practice emphasizes business and transactional law for a variety of industries, including computer software and hardware, commercial real estate, and health care. Richard attended Wichita State University, graduating in 2000 with a major in management information systems and a minor in accounting. For more than five years, he worked in the information technology field. In law school, Richard earned a Certificate in Business and Transactional Law, which focused on linking a client's financial and business needs to effective legal planning. Richard’s education and experience in business and technology provide him with a distinctly valuable perspective on advising business people. Understanding and speaking the language of technology also helps Richard clarify complex transactions for his clients.
Technology, Trademark, and Copyright
Richard assists clients with their technology law needs, including filing trademark applications, copyright consultation, trade secret protection, and preparation of licensing agreements. Richard helps his clients evaluate their intellectual property and strategically protect it through the most appropriate methods.
Health Law
Richard’s health law practice includes representing providers in medical practice transaction, contract reviews, and in regulatory compliance matters, including anti-kickback, Stark, FTC “red flag” rules, and health information technology (HIT).
Business Practice
Richard represents clients on a wide range of business matters, including the formation and registration of corporations, LLCs, and partnerships. Richard also counsels clients regarding operating agreements, asset purchase agreements, and in the selection of entities and their various tax treatments. As part of his business practice, Richard advises individuals and business owners regarding their estate planning needs, including the preparation of wills, trusts, and power of attorney documents.
Real Estate
Richard represents clients involved in the purchasing, selling, leasing, and financing of real estate. Richard also handles various negotiations and disputed real estate matters related to mechanics liens or security interests. Additionally, Richard’s practice includes determining title to real estate, minerals, and oil and gas lease interests.
