Tom Busch is a results-oriented business lawyer with significant trial and appellate experience related to business transactions developed over the course of his thirty-year career in private practice. Tom’s practice primarily focuses on business transactions, sports organizations, real estate and construction, banking, and estate planning and probate administration.

Tom is a strong proponent of community involvement and is active in the leadership of several civic organizations. He serves on the Executive Committees of the Greater Kansas City Sports Commission/Foundation and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. He is an officer of the Shawnee Mission South Foundation, a philanthropic organization that is dedicated to enhancing the educational experience of students and faculty at Shawnee Mission South High School. He is also an officer of the Shawnee Mission South Father’s Connection, which seeks to provide positive role modeling to students by supporting academics, activities and campus improvements.

Business Law

Tom is a seasoned transactional lawyer, with a great deal of experience in business planning, entity formation, operations, asset and stock sales, franchise and distributorship, employment relations, commercial litigation, bank offerings and collections, and intellectual property licensing.

Sports Law

Tom serves as general counsel for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, the Greater Kansas City Sports Commission/Foundation, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, EventUnited, Inc., and the National Association of Sports Public Address Announcers. He is also the director of licensing for the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, and National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. He is a strong negotiator who has successfully consummated hundreds of intellectual property licenses, association and event sponsorships, broadcast and film rights, book deals, and contracts of all kinds for his sports clients.

Real Estate Law

Tom’s real estate practice includes assisting clients with sales and exchanges, loan closings and opinions, land use (benefit districts, special assessments, impact fees, zoning), mechanic’s liens, condominium and townhouse formation, subdivision development, homes associations, and landlord-tenant matters (commercial and residential). Tom stands ready to serve as an advisor, transactional attorney or litigator in matters involving real property.

Banking Law

Tom offers experience in servicing community banks in Kansas and Missouri primarily in the areas of bank holding company private offerings and bank loan collections.

Estate Planning and Probate Administration

Tom engages in planning for non-taxable estates and trusts. He has considerable experience with will and trust drafting, probate administration and trust challenges.
