Anna Ritchie joined Martin Pringle in 2011 as an associate attorney after starting her career in Kansas City, Missouri. She was elected partner in 2015. She focuses her practice on employment law, and civil and commercial litigation. Anna also has experience in health law and medical malpractice litigation. As the daughter of a fighter pilot and a librarian, becoming a litigator was a natural fit for Anna. While attending the University of Kansas as an undergraduate student, Anna realized that a legal career would allow her to combine her leadership experience and journalism education with her desire to engage in practical problem-solving. Anna also discovered a passion for the Kansas Jayhawks that has taken her all over the United States to cheer for the football and basketball teams. After college, she worked for a non-profit as a risk management consultant before attending law school. Anna is a 2010 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, Dickinson School of Law, where she served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Penn State International Law Review. That position gave her valuable experience in legal research and writing.
Anna regularly advises employers on a wide variety of employment law matters, including compliance issues, employee hiring and discharge practices, employee manuals and handbooks, wage and hour compliance, and responding to and investigating internal complaints. She helps ensure that our business clients' employment applications, contracts, performance evaluations, job descriptions and employee handbooks conform to all applicable laws. Anna also frequently works with business owners on the effective use of employment agreements and independent contractor agreements to help business owners organize an efficient workforce. In addition, she has significant experience drafting, enforcing, and negotiating trade secret and non-competition and non-solicitation agreements. Her practice includes representing employers in federal discrimination litigation, including Title VII, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA and ADAAA), Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) claims. She also has experience defending employers in wage and hour disputes, including donning and doffing and overtime claims, involving the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Anna represents clients in a broad scope of industries, including health care, banking, real estate, construction, aviation, manufacturing, and oil and gas.
Anna represents businesses and individuals in complex civil and commercial litigation disputes. An experienced litigator, Anna has represented clients in a variety of matters, including trade secret and non-competition agreement litigation, contract disputes, employment claims, and physician negligence. She has defended clients successfully in bet-the-company litigation. Her experience includes jury trials in both state and federal court. In addition to her extensive knowledge of motion practice and oral argument, she is highly skilled in e-discovery and ESI (electronically stored information) and frequently counsels clients on document management policies and best practices for discovery compliance in litigation.
Anna’s practice also includes representation of physicians, hospitals, nurses and other health care providers in both medical negligence claims and in regulatory compliance matters. She has counseled clients regarding compliance issues under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), including counseling health care providers and business associates regarding permitted uses and disclosures of protected health information, notices of privacy practices requirements, compliance with the Security Rule and Privacy Rule, and drafting business associate agreements.
